Information on the files with comparison stars for Guide8.0 and 9.0 users. After unzipping the selected zip-files, place the prn- and tdf-files in the main directory of Guide. A list of available tdf-files can be created by clicking on 'Extras' and subsequently on 'Toggle user datasets'. The files all start with 'Comp. stars'. Double clicking on a selected file produces another field that allows you to (de)activate that file. Note also that you can also set the level at which the data appear on screen. On screen only the magnitude is given, rounded to one decimal and without the decimal point, e.g. 125 means magmitude 12.5. This does not apply to the TASS-4 data. The file was too big to edit, so the V-magnitude is given as in the file with 3 decimals. Additional data (V and B-V with 2 decimals, and source) appear when you right-click on the star. Note that information from other sources may also appear. Click on 'next' until the desired information is displayed. Full information on the star and the source is displayed when you click on 'more info'. It also shows the date of the update you are using. There only will be regular updates of the APASS data. The other sources can be regarded as definite. If you find errors, please let me know, and it will be corrected in the next update. Suggestions for improvement are also welcome. Reinder J.
